Hedge calculator

Work out the stake on the other side of a two-way bet.

A hedge stake can equalise the return of both outcomes, or be sized so the hedge returns the original stake. Covering at a price worse than the fair odds has negative expected value.

If the hedge wins6.67

Covering at a price shorter than the fair odds has negative expected value. Compare the hedge price in the EV calculator before you place it.

Formula

Equalise: hedge = original stake × original odds ÷ hedge odds. Recover the stake: hedge = original stake ÷ (hedge odds − 1).

Worked example

A stake of 10 at 5.00, hedged at 1.50 to equalise, needs 33.33 on the hedge and leaves +6.67 whichever side wins.

FAQ

When is a hedge a bad price?

When the hedge odds are shorter than the fair price of that outcome. Check that gap in the EV calculator before you cover.

Does equalising lock a gain?

Only if both bets stand and are settled on the terms you used. A void or a limit can leave one side unmatched.
