| Book | Overround | Hold | Outcome 1 | Outcome 2 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| A | 4.76% | 4.54% | 1.909 | 1.909 |
| Best prices | 4.76% | 4.54% | 1.909 | 1.909 |
Formula
Overround = Σ (1 ÷ odds) − 1. Hold = 1 − 1 ÷ Σ (1 ÷ odds).
Worked example
−110 / −110 is decimal 1.9091 / 1.9091, an overround of 4.76% and a hold of 4.55%.
FAQ
What is the difference between overround and hold?
Overround is the sum of implied probabilities minus 1. Hold is 1 minus 1 divided by that sum: the share a balanced book keeps.
What is a low margin?
It depends on the sport and the market. The overround guide shows how the figure is built, without a universal cutoff.
Why compare the same line?
Different lines are different bets. The margin comparison is only meaningful when every book is pricing the same outcomes.
Is the margin different on 1X2 and two-way markets?
The formulas are the same. A three-way market has one more price in the sum, so the overround is not directly comparable with a two-way total.
