Serie A Dropping Odds – How Italian Football Prices Move

Serie A dropping odds explained: prices open only a week out, the margin halves in a day, and this week's Pinnacle moves on Napoli, Fiorentina and Parma.

Serie A dropping odds are prices on Italian top-flight matches that shorten between the opening line and kick-off, such as Lazio away at Napoli falling from 3.83 to 3.36 at Pinnacle in the first day after the price opened. Serie A prices open later than the other big European leagues, about six to seven days before kick-off, and the margin is cut fast: the four 7–8 November matches we checked opened at 6.2–6.4% and were at 3.5–3.8% less than a day later. So remove the margin before you read any Serie A move, and expect a larger share of the movement to come early in the week.

This guide covers when Serie A prices appear, what last weekend's open-to-close data shows, which market to read on each type of match, this week's moves in fair probability, and how to check your bookmaker against a Pinnacle move. For football in general, see football dropping odds. For the other leagues, see Premier League dropping odds and La Liga dropping odds.

Definition. A Serie A dropping odd is a pre-match price on an Italian Serie A match (1X2, Asian handicap or total) that is shorter now than at an earlier reference point, usually the opening price or the price at the start of a time window. Read it in fair implied probability: remove the margin from every outcome of the market at both times, then compare.

When do Serie A odds open?

About a week before kick-off, later than the Premier League, La Liga, Bundesliga or Ligue 1. The public Pinnacle tracker SteamWatch first recorded all four 7–8 November 2026 Serie A matches we checked at 11:00 UTC on Sunday 1 November: 6.2 to 7.2 days ahead (match pages read 2 November 2026). The two Monday matches tonight, Sassuolo v Fiorentina and Atalanta v Parma, first appeared on 25 October, about eight days out. In last weekend's sample, the median Serie A opener came 6.7 days before kick-off, against 12.8 to 13.8 days for the Premier League, La Liga, Bundesliga and Ligue 1. The full comparison by league is in when do odds open.

A late opener changes how you should read the week:

  1. The margin comes out in the first day. Napoli v Lazio opened with a 1X2 margin of 6.21% and was at 3.75% 22 hours later. Inter v Como went from 6.30% to 3.83%, Parma v Bologna from 6.27% to 3.46%, and AS Roma v Sassuolo from 6.42% to 3.55%. In La Liga, by contrast, the 6–8 November matches were still at 5.3–5.8% five to seven days out (see the La Liga guide). Every Serie A price lengthens a little in that first day for that reason alone.
  2. European midweeks sit inside the window. On SteamWatch's fixture list, Inter play Feyenoord and AS Roma play Manchester United in the Champions League on 3 November, Napoli play Porto and Como play Lens on 4 November, and AC Milan (Europa League) and Atalanta (Conference League) play on 5 November. Four of them, Inter, AS Roma, Napoli and Como, are in the 7–8 November matches above. Rotation and injury news from midweek reaches the weekend price on Thursday and Friday.
  3. Line-ups. Starting line-ups arrive shortly before kick-off. That is when limits are highest and the closing line forms.

How much do Serie A odds move before kick-off?

Less in the last 24 hours, more in the days before, than other leagues. We took the eight Serie A matches played on 31 October and 1 November 2026 from SteamWatch's public archive of Pinnacle 1X2 prices and removed the margin with the power method. Of the total movement across four windows (opener to 24 hours out, 24 to 6 hours, 6 to 1 hour, last hour), 47% came in the last 24 hours. In the Premier League, Championship and Bundesliga the same figure was 64–66%. The method and the full 49-match sample are in why odds change before kick-off.

Lazio v CagliariLazio1.61 → 1.5060.0% → 65.6% (+5.6 pts)6.60% → 3.30%

What the data shows:

  • Big Serie A moves came early. On Juventus v Napoli, the largest move in the sample, the change from the opener to 24 hours before kick-off was about twice the change in the final 24 hours. Lazio v Cagliari and AC Milan v Inter followed the same pattern.
  • The last hour was quiet. The median last-hour move in Serie A was 1.00 point of fair probability, against 2.16 in La Liga and 1.47 in the Premier League over the same weekend.
  • The margin finished low. The eight closing 1X2 margins sat between 2.35% and 3.30%, median 2.67%.

Eight matches is a small sample. Read the shape, not the exact percentages, and check it again over the next rounds.

Parma v Bologna (7 Nov, 18:00)Bologna1.80 → 1.856.27% → 3.46%1.869 → 1.890−0.6 pts

What the table shows:

  • Napoli v Lazio moved within a day. Napoli drifted from 1.85 to 2.08 (fair probability 52.0% → 46.8%) and Lazio shortened from 3.83 to 3.36. The largest single step on all three outcomes came at 12:02 UTC on 1 November, an hour after the price opened. The Asian handicap moved the same way: Napoli −0.5 went from 1.85 to 2.09. We do not know the reason; SteamWatch shows the price, not the money behind it.
  • A raw drift can be mostly margin. Bologna's price went from 1.80 to 1.85, a 2.8% drift in raw terms. With the margin removed, its fair probability fell by only 0.6 points. Roma's raw price did not change at all, yet its fair price shortened slightly.
  • Fiorentina's move happened in one step. SteamWatch records the largest single step on 27 October at 18:18 UTC, when Fiorentina went from 2.61 to 2.39 and Sassuolo from 2.55 to 2.80, six days before kick-off.

Sum check: every 1X2 snapshot of these six matches (the five above plus Inter v Como) adds up to 102.5–107.0% in implied probability, which is plausible for Pinnacle. A snapshot far outside that range is a data error, not a move.

Which Serie A market moves most?

It depends on the match. Three examples from the same snapshot:

MatchMarketOpen → nowFair probability change
AS Roma v SassuoloTotal, over 3.251.93 → 1.83+4.0 pts
Inter v ComoTotal, under 3.251.91 → 1.84+3.0 pts
Atalanta v ParmaAsian handicap, Atalanta−1.25 at 1.93 → −1.0 at 1.87line moved; not comparable
Atalanta v ParmaTotal2.75 → 3.0line moved; not comparable

Heavy favourites: read the total. Roma's 1X2 price did not move, but the over 3.25 goals shortened from 1.93 to 1.83, and Roma −1.5 barely moved (1.93 → 1.91; fair probability 49.3% → 51.2%). The market's view of how many goals there will be changed; its view of who wins did not. Totals are covered in over/under dropping odds.

When the line changes, the price does not compare. On Atalanta v Parma, the handicap line moved from Atalanta −1.25 to −1.0 and the total from 2.75 to 3.0 goals. A price on −1.0 cannot be compared with a price on −1.25; read the line change itself as the move. See Asian handicap explained for how quarter lines settle.

Close matches: read the 1X2 and the handicap together. On Sassuolo v Fiorentina, the 1X2 moved and the handicap line moved from level (0) to Sassuolo +0.25. Both say the same thing: Fiorentina became the favourite.

How do you check your bookmaker against a Serie A drop?

Compare your bookmaker's price with Pinnacle's fair price after the move, not with the old price.

Worked example with the current Napoli v Lazio prices (2.08 / 3.86 / 3.36). Lazio's fair price is about 3.51. Two illustrative bookmaker prices, not quotes from a real bookmaker:

Your bookmaker's price on LazioExpected value against fair 3.51
3.70about +5.4% (3.70 ÷ 3.51 − 1)
3.40about −3.1%

A price that has not yet followed the drop is the only case where a drop helps you. Bookmakers do not follow a Pinnacle move at the same speed; how one large bookmaker follows Pinnacle is in bet365 dropping odds. Run your own numbers with the devig calculator and the EV calculator, measure a move with the odds drop calculator, and judge each bet afterwards against the closing fair price with the CLV calculator.

What about live Serie A drops?

After kick-off, the clock and the score move prices without any money behind them: a 0-0 at minute 70 shortens the draw on its own, and a goal resets every market. Pinnacle Terminal covers in-play for football only. It shows live drops as they happen, filtered by score, recent goals and the minutes after a goal, and does not grade them; the 0–10 grade is for pre-match moves. How much of a live drop is time decay is worked through in in-play odds movement.

How Pinnacle Terminal handles Serie A moves

With Serie A, the useful moves often come in the first days after the price opens, while you are busy with other leagues. The terminal streams Pinnacle's prices over a WebSocket with Pinnacle's maximum market limit beside each price, so a Lazio or Fiorentina move appears when Pinnacle makes it. Every pre-match move on a Serie A 1X2, handicap or total is graded 0–10 and labelled: Big move when the price drops and Pinnacle closes the market, Sharp drop for a fall of roughly 20% or more from the recent high, Limit-backed when the price drops and Pinnacle raises the limit, Rebound when it heads back towards the opener, plus Downtrend and Standard. Drops are measured over a 2-minute window by default, and you can change it. Alerts go to your own Telegram bot with the fair price (Power devig unless you choose another method), and an alert rule can be limited to the leagues your bookmaker offers. The terminal shows moves as they happen; it does not keep an odds history, which is why the open-to-close tables above come from a public archive. Everything it covers is on Pinnacle dropping odds.
